These terms are between you and SparQan LLC, a Texas limited liability company ("we"), the maker of Beam, a dictation and voice to text application for macOS.

The product

Beam converts speech to text on your Mac using on-device models. Transcription accuracy depends on your audio, environment, and hardware, and no accuracy level is guaranteed. Beam requires an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 14 or later.

Purchases and refunds

If you are unhappy with Beam for any reason, email [email protected] within 30 days for a full refund, no questions asked. This covers renewal charges too, not only your first payment. A refund ends the license and the key stops activating new Macs when we issue it, though we normally leave a short wind-down period so nothing stops working the moment you ask.

Beta keys are provided free, identify your install, and do not gate functionality; we may end the beta program at any time.

Automatic renewal

Monthly, yearly, and Founders plans renew automatically. Unless you cancel first, we charge your payment method again at the start of each new term, at the price you joined at: $5.99 each month, $59.99 each year, or $129 every three years. That continues until you cancel.

You can cancel at any time from your billing page, which takes a few clicks and needs nothing from us, or by emailing [email protected]. Cancelling stops every future charge. Your license keeps working through the end of the term you already paid for, and then Beam returns to the free tier. Nothing you wrote is deleted.

Before each yearly and Founders renewal we email a reminder to the address on your purchase, in good time, telling you the amount, the date we will charge it, and how to cancel. Three years is a long time to be expected to remember something, and we would rather remind you than surprise you.

Your license

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Beam on up to two Macs you personally use. You may not resell, sublicense, or reverse engineer Beam except as permitted by law.

A monthly, yearly, or Founders license covers the full app until its end date, plus a three-day grace period. When it lapses, Beam returns to the free tier; nothing is deleted, and renewing restores the license.

The Founders Package covers every feature Beam ships during its three-year term. The price you first pay is the price your plan renews at, for as long as you keep it, even when public prices change.

A license bought while Beam carried a single lifetime price is perpetual: it covers the version of Beam you bought and the updates we ship to it. It does not promise free major upgrades forever. If Beam is ever discontinued, we will ship a final build that removes the activation requirement, so your license keeps working without our servers.

Your content

Everything you dictate, record, and transcribe is yours. We claim no rights over it, and by architecture we never receive it.

Recording other people

You are solely responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you when capturing calls, meetings, or any audio involving other people, including obtaining consent where required.

Open source software

Beam includes third-party open source components and models under their own licenses, listed in the app under Acknowledgements. Those licenses govern those components.

Disclaimers and liability

Beam is provided as is, without warranties of any kind to the maximum extent permitted by law. We are not liable for the content, accuracy, or consequences of any transcription, or for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Our total liability for any claim is capped at the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits rights you hold under consumer law that cannot be limited by agreement.

Termination

We may terminate a license for material breach of these terms. You can stop using Beam at any time; your local files remain yours.

General

These terms are governed by the laws of Texas. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest stand. These terms plus the privacy policy are the whole agreement about Beam.
